Why does anyone give a shit about Joe Rogan beating COVID?

Good question.

In any normal world, this would be a mere blip on the social medias. Maybe some dank memes afterwards but probably not make international news.

Here is Joe’s original IG post so you can get some context.

To the casual observer, this is kinda interesting. I saw it and said, “Cool, he beat it really quickly.”

The legacy media saw this and said, “WHAT THE HOLY FUCK!”

Here are some headlines:

I’m not doctor or specialist of any kind but I did have some basic knowledge of what Ivermectin is before this story broke. All you need to do is do a google search for the actual, non-partisan information on it.

What is Ivermectin?

Ivermectin is actually a wonder drug…for humans!

Pulled straight from Wikipedia:

Ivermectin is a medication used to treat parasite infestations.[6][7] In humans, these include head licescabiesriver blindness (onchocerciasis), strongyloidiasistrichuriasisascariasis, and lymphatic filariasis.[6][8][9][10]

… Ivermectin was discovered in 1975 and came into medical use in 1981.[12][13] In 2015, William Campbell and Satoshi Ōmura won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for its discovery and applications.[14] It is on the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines.[15] Ivermectin is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as an antiparasitic agent.[16] In 2018, it was the 420th most commonly prescribed medication in the United States, with more than one hundred thousand prescriptions.[17] The medication is also being researched as a way to treat or prevent tropical diseases including yellow fever and malaria.

Yes, it is used for veterinary medicine but clearly it is a safely, widely prescribed drug for humans. Is it the silver bullet for COVID, doesn’t look like it but neither do the vaccines. So, why the controversy?

Let me point you to an excellent article by Matt Taibi (one of my favourite journos), “Ivermectin: Can A Drug Be Right Wing?” Read it to gain a bit more insight as to why the backlash against a specific drug exists.

This brings me to my next point – why aren’t mono-clonal antibodies being vilified as “experimental” and “dangerous” when he clearly mentioned them in the same IG post?

A curious thing to note is that these lab made antibodies are being developed by MASSIVE pharma companies. Ivermectin is off patent. QUI BONO here?

What About The Research?

There was a pre-print article about Ivermectin set to launch this month but was retracted only about a week prior to writing this post. Here’s the initial pre-print paper submitted to the Journal Nature – The Journal Of Antibiotics.

It’s retraction was based off some concerns regarding the methodology and you can find the retraction statement here.

One paper does not make a causal link. Keep that in mind. It’s true, there isn’t very much research regarding Ivermectin use with respect to COVID19 but if the research is “forbidden” and even the thought of conducting clinical double blind trials on it is deemed “right wing” we seem to be in a strange Orwellian nightmare situation here.

I thought we were throwing the kitchen sink at this pandemic so all potential therapies should be considered? Prove that they are effective or ineffective and move on.

Bottom Line

I’m still ruthlessly promoting that you get your ass healthy. This is the only way to ensure a well functioning immune system. Get you body fat down and make sure your BMI is under 25. The research is screaming at us to get healthy and not just rely on a vaccine.

Have a quick read of one of our earlier posts by Keenan Eriksson on how to start eating better in order to reduce your vulnerability to COVID 19.
